Lead Tech / Master Electrician (Part Time)

COCA’s Lead Technician – Master Electrician reports to the Production Manager. The ME serves as primary electrician for COCA Presents shows, COCA’s Pre-Professional produced shows and any other shows & events.  The primary function includes hanging and circuiting lighting units according to the plots, ensuring adequate stock of spare lamps, rep gel, etc, updating documentation and recommending and working on technical maintenance projects as needed.

This position is part-time, hourly, and requires primarily weekends and evening availability, though some daytime calls are required.

 

Essential Job Functions:

 

On tours as part of COCA Presents:

  • Work in concert with the Production Manager and the visiting Tech Dir/Stage Manager to make sure that we can alter our rep plot to meet their production needs during the advancing process
  • Create a purchase list (if need be) for gel, etc, for the shows
  • Hang, patch and preliminarily focus the touring plot
  • participate in load in/focus and strike to ensure that the plot is properly focused for the show and returned to rep on the strike
  • Participate as board operator if the tour requires it
  • May need to assist in the rental of specific items on a show-by-show basis.

 

On COCA produced shows and events:

  • Ensure that the plot is returned to COCA’s rep plot OR hung to new plot
  • Ensure that boom color is returned to rep plot OR hung to new plot
  • Alter and focus any specials according to the design
  • Serve as board operator for the production
  • Some shows may be designed by ME as needed

 

On rental productions:

  • Work in concert with the production manager to ensure that the lighting needs of the renter are accommodated
  • Hang, patch and preliminarily focus the rental plot
  • Participate in load in/focus and strike to ensure that the plot is properly focused for the show and returned to rep on the strike
  • Participate as board operator if the tour requires

 

Job Qualifications

  • Experience with the ETC Ion light board (programming, running)
  • Experience in dance and dance lighting preferred
  • Able to hang and focus lighting instruments
  • Ability to trouble shoot lighting and theatrical electrical related issues
  • Ability to repair and maintain theatrical lighting instruments and cabling
  • Creative problem solver
  • Ability to work alone or with a group – initiative is desired (identifying issues before they are problems, preventative maintenance, etc)
  • Able to climb ladders and/or a genie lift
  • Able to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Experience with LED and moving lights a plus
