Story Pirates Bring Hamilton Elementary Students’ Stories to Life

COCA is excited to welcome the Story Pirates to St. Louis this weekend as part of the 2017-2018 COCA Presents season.

The Story Pirates celebrate the words and ideas of young people, turning their original stories into wild sketch comedy musicals. Some of the best improvisers and musicians in the country worked with COCAedu and St. Louis Public School’s Hamilton Elementary School to shape stories that will appear in the show. With the help of two 4th grade and two 5th grade classes, as well as teacher Christian Jude, the performers will bring to life the unfiltered world of kids’ imaginations.

Also, as it turns out, more than half of the cast has local St. Louis connections – Will Jacobs and Sam Reiff-Pasarew are both alumni of Washington University, and Ian Miller and Mariah Smith graduated from Clayton High School. And Ian, we MUST point out, is also a former COCAkid! We love showcasing professional, working artists who got their start right here in St. Louis.

To get you geared up for this weekend’s shows, here is Patton Oswalt reading “The Banana King” by 3rd grader Joshua Doyle.
