Ballet Studio
July 6-17
Ages 9-14

Ballet Studio, COCA’s Jr. Ballet Intensive, has been adapted to a virtual format—featuring classes led by American Ballet Theatre National Training Curriculum Pre- Primary–Level 3 Certified Instructors who also have experience teaching in fun and exciting ways online! This full-day, 2-week intensive includes ballet, modern, and character technique and focuses on elements to improve their training, including musicality, the expressiveness of contrasting movement energies, character development, and human emotion.

Throughout this intensive, dancers focus on the classical ballet, The Sleeping Beauty—with the story being told in class and viewing professional ballet companies perform it onstage. Dancers learn to tell the story themselves through choreography and pantomime, as well as the process of preparing for a performance. The intensive concludes with a video performance showcasing the many new skills they learn.

June 15-19:

Midnight Movie – AM

Long before Sharknado, B-movies with exaggerated plotlines and ridiculous disaster scenarios showed up in the “midnight movie.” In this camp, we create our own satirical storyline with cheesy special effects and leaps of logic to create films that are so bad, they are delightful. Students leave with access to the videos created in the camp.

Viral Video – AM

Why do some short videos make so many people laugh so much that they get shared and go viral? In this camp, we look at some viral videos to determine the elements that popularize them like comedy, cuteness, “challenges,” and connection. Then, we take a shot at making a short video that we believe would go big online. You work in groups to write the scripts, direct, perform, shoot, and edit your short videos using things you can film at home. During a screening, we vote on what videos are likely to go “viral.” Campers must provide their own phone or tablet to use to video.
