June 15-19:

C.O.C.A. D.R.E.A.M. – AM

Calling all Siwanatorz! Campers practice hip-hop steps and explore rhythm, formations and spacing as they learn choreography to their favorite songs. Then, we work with a fashion teaching artist to create bows, sparkly T-shirts, and skirts to wear when we dance. You believe it, you achieve it! Cartooning: Character Creations – PM

Campers uncover the range of comic book genres as we design original cartoon characters and place them in our own comic strips. We learn how to strengthen our drawing skills as we work on facial expressions and poses. We develop crazy critters and magnificent monsters, supervillains, and heroes. Then, we pull them together in stories to create our own comic strips and books.

Clones, Aliens and Jedi – AM

Engage the hyperdrive and make the creative jump! Campers explore the elements of the Star Wars universe. We create our own characters (be they clones, aliens or Jedi) to create a collective story from our own imaginations. Campers create props to support our story. May the force be with us! Sorting Hat – PM

Where would the sorting hat send you? Enter the world of Hogwarts and Harry Potter and discover whether you belong in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. You imagine your own student, professor, and fantastical creature characters to populate an imaginary wizard school. You create wands and potions—then share your tribute to the world of magic for the final day of camp.

Colorful World – AM

We discover the world of visual art through an exploration of color. Campers use observed and imaginative palettes as we draw and paint, create prints, and build sculpture with a focus on dazzling hues. We encounter great artists throughout history who used color in surprising and amazing ways while creating works in all the colors of the rainbow.

Where’s My Supersuit? – AM

Campers explore superheroes with secret identities like Elastigirl, Superman, Batman, and Frozone. We then use these famous characters as inspiration to create superheroes, supervillains, and secret identities of our own. Into the Unknown – PM

Campers journey into the “unknown” to create their own adventure inspired by favorite characters and themes. Inspired by Elsa’s journey to discover the root of her powers, we invent our own characters with amazing gifts, collectively create an adventurous story, and build the props and costume accessories to share a fun, magnificent, and musical tale. First Act – AM

Campers work on the basics of plot and characterization as we improvise short scenes based on classic stories, fairy tales and current pop culture. We formalize some of our best ideas into short written scenes to refine, revise, and rehearse.

Where in the World – AM

Find yourself in a different country each day, and uncover the cultural clues to determine where in the world you are! Dance, draw, sculpt, sing, and learn some basic language skills as you travel around our mysterious globe and explore the arts from different cultures. Where will you be? Japan? Iceland? Peru? Just wait and see! Features multiple professional teaching artists to present a variety of arts disciplines.

Ice Cream Camp- PM

What is better on a hot summer day than your favorite ice cream treats? How about learning to make your own? Campers spend each day with COCA’s culinary instructor learning how to make some of the most popular summer treats, from their favorite flavor of ice cream to popsicles, shakes and smoothies. Along the way, we learn about kitchen safety and practice basic cooking skills. You must list any food restrictions or food allergies under special needs on the registration form or call COCA at least two weeks prior to camp to provide information about allergies. Groceries included in price; camper will need access to refrigerator, freezer, and blender.

Shake and Bake – AM

Campers learn to make healthy versions of some of their favorite snack foods. Then, we get out on the dance floor with one of COCA’s dance instructors to learn fitness routines based in hip-hop and jazz. Captain Marvel, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Mystique, and the Black Widow are just a few of the powerful superheroines from comic book culture who provide inspiration for our own special super identities. With powers like flight, super strength, speed, gadgets, and fire energy blasts, these heroes know how to take on villains! We develop a fantastic story, create sets, costumes, and sound effects. Singing In Style – AM

COCA vocal music teachers help each camper gain confidence as they explore singing from different styles of musical theatre, such as golden age, jukebox, standard, and Disney. They work on musicality, rhythm, breath support, articulation, and tone; and also performance skills, such as posture and vocal expression.

Third Dimension – PM

Working individually and in small groups, we imagine, design, and build our own fantastic structures. We explore clay, paper maché, tape, and wire as sculptural medium as we practice both additive and subtractive techniques. From functional to purely fantastical, we discover the many different ways to see in the third dimension.
