Early Childhood Teaching Artist-Summer Camp

Reports to Director of Arts Education

 COCA’s Summer Carts Camps run during the daytime from late May-August at locations throughout the region including our primary site in University City.  COCA serves nearly 4,000 students, ages 3-18, annually through its summer camp program.  Additional opportunities during the school year may also be available.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide high-quality arts instruction
  • Lead programs by example and model professionalism to students through conduct, attitude, attendance and punctuality
  • Develop age and contextually appropriate lesson plans, maintain attendance sheets, support program evaluation, and attend all required meetings and training sessions
  • Fulfill number of hours/classes required in specific teaching agreement
  • Prepare materials, coordinate and obtain equipment, materials and supplies for camps
  • Prepare students for a culminating event on the final day of camp that reflects the goals and process of the camp

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required or significant professional learning
  • At least 5 years of experience teaching 3-5 year olds
  • Commitment to teaching and providing continuity on a part-time basis
  • Experience and enthusiasm working in the arts
  • Firm educational and practical background in the arts
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation and teaching skills
  • Ability to problem solve, be flexible, imaginative and innovative

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to physically demonstrate and model the physical stamina and skills necessary for performing arts activities
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand instruction
  • Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, twist, stoop, kneel and reach in all directions
