Please Use Extra Caution Crossing from COCA Parking Garage

Monday, October 8, Washington University crews will be working on the north side of Washington Ave., just outside the parking garage, to pour a new sidewalk. At the same time, COCA’s construction fence will be moved and block much of the sidewalk along the south side of Washington Ave.

With sidewalks blocked on both sides, you will have to briefly walk in the street, around Washington University’s construction dumpsters, to reach the sidewalk which runs alongside Washington University’s 560 Music Building.

You can then proceed to the corner of Washington Ave. and Trinity Ave. and cross at the stop sign.

We will be posting crossing guards outside the garage from 3pm-9pm on Monday and Tuesday to help our students and their families navigate this area!

Thank you for your understanding during this temporary detour!

Coming 2020…COCA is expanding! Create Our Future is a multi-year fundraising effort to transform our University City campus and build our capital reserves and endowment funds for scholarships, support services, artistic and educational programming.

Renovations to our historic building were completed in June 2018, and our new East Wing will be complete in January 2020 and incorporate the footprint of our former parking lot and approximately double COCA’s building size.

How do I Enter COCA?

We have a new front door! Please enter COCA via the Trinity Avenue entrance, during Create Our Future expansion construction.

Where do I park?

Free parking is provided across Washington Ave. from COCA in a new parking garage shared with Washington University. Limited street parking is also available. Please follow all University City parking rules.

The new parking garage includes 200+ total spaces serving three groups: COCA, Washington University’s 560 Music School, and the University’s Castlereigh Apartments – the same three groups that had been sharing the two smaller surface lots.

With additional spaces overall, we will continue to manage the new garage much as we managed the two lots – spaces will be divided between us and available on a first-come basis.

During special events, COCA will continue to offer valet services, shuttle services, and collaborate with other nearby parking lot owners. COCA staff and 560 Music School staff will also continue to share event calendars to make the best plans to accommodate our patrons.

How long will this all take?

Thank you for your patience as we make these long-term improvements to COCA.

The anticipated schedule and impacts:

Summer 2018

  • COCA’s renovated spaces and the shared Washington University Parking Garage open on June 4, 2018.
  • COCA’s entrance moves to Trinity Avenue entrance.
  • Expansion construction begins. The Staenberg Studio, The Black Box, and the Washington Avenue lobby close.
  • Classes and camps operate at full capacity for the remainder of construction.
