Adult professionals (Ages 19+) are invited to audition for The Butterfly Room and COCA’s Summer Rep: Matilda The Musical.

SAT, OCT 16 | 10:00AM–3:00PM

WHO: AEA and NON-AEA adult actors (ages 19+). This is a Guest Artist II Contract (housing is not provided with this contract), pending Equity Approval.

We are especially interested in casting adult actors who have worked as teaching artists and are committed to supporting the artistic growth of young people throughout the rehearsal and performance process. The production follows a professional theatre workshop model.

WHEN: Auditions will be held in individual, 15-minute appointments on Friday, October 15 from 4:00–9:00PM and Saturday, October 16 from 10:00AM–3:00PM at COCA. Callbacks will be held on Sunday, October 17.

WHERE: COCA (Center of Creative Arts), 6880 Washington Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63130 in Johnson Studio

WHAT TO PREPARE: A side from the musical or musicals you’d like to be considered for and 32 bars of a song.

When you arrive for your audition, you will indicate which productions you are auditioning for and have prepared the corresponding sides.

AEA Actors and all actors auditioning for The Wolves should submit a video audition and headshot/resume in lieu of an in-person appointment. These materials can be submitted by October 16 to Delaney Piggins, Artistic Producer, at dpiggins@cocastl.org.

At a General Motors automobile factory in 1924, a worker has big dreams of going to college and breaking free of the factory town. In an effort to escape the overwhelming frustrations of the factory, the worker discovers an off-limits storage room to find respite, calling it the butterfly room. The past becomes parallel with the present. The Butterfly Room is written by St. Louisan and Music Director of COCA’s Vocal Company, Colin Healy.

The Butterfly Room Time Commitment

The Butterfly Room rehearses Mondays 5:00–9:00PM and Saturdays 1:00–5:00PM through March 19, with a break the week of March 21. The show continues to rehearse MON–FRI 5:00–9:00PM and some weekends starting March 28.

Methuselah
The floor manager. Doesn’t have much authority other than their age and a clipboard.
Thirties.
Gender: Any Gender

Thomas Midgely
Chaotic evil. Youthful and smarmy engineer from General Motors tasked with solving a problem at all costs. Historical figure.
Late Twenties.
Gender: Any Gender

Charles Kettering
Chaotic good. An idealist inventor who genuinely wants to do good for the world.
Forties.
Gender: Any Gender

Various Ensemble: Factory Workers and Higher-ups, All ages and Genders.

COCA Health & Safety Procedures

  • Performers who show proof of vaccination and follow COCA’s testing policy may be unmasked only while on-stage. All other performers will remain masked.
  • COCA requires performers to test weekly with support from Nomi Health, our health/safety partner.
  • Performers will maintain at least 10 feet of physical distance from the audience.
  • Directors, Choreographers, Designers, Music Directors and Stage Managers will be masked at all times when engaging with performers in rehearsal studios and on-stage.
