In partnership with projects + gallery, COCA is participating in For Freedoms’ 50 State Initiative from October 3-10.
COCA patrons, students and community members are invited to create a yard sign that states what freedom means to you!
COCA will provide materials, and once completed, you can leave your sign at COCA for us to display for the week in the COCA courtyard OR you can take it home and display it in your yard! See the front desk for a metal stake to take home with you to display the sign.
- Freedom Of ____ ?
- Freedom From _____ ?
- Freedom For ______ ?
- Freedom To______ ?
The Four Freedoms outlined by FDR and Norman Rockwell – freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear – began to articulate the human right to freedom, but the articulation of those freedoms did not apply to everyone. The lawn signs allow every participant to define freedom in their own way and articulate a vision of freedom that contains multitudes.
About the Project
This activity is part of The 50 State Initiative, which is a non-partisan, nationwide campaign to use art as a means of inspiring broad civic participation. Along the way, they aim to build a network of artists, arts institutions and civic leaders and to map and connect the cultural and artistic infrastructure in the United States.
