COCA Pre-Professional Division (PPD) students and new students (non-PPD) are invited to audition for COCA’s Summer Musical: Matilda The Musical.

Audition dates for new students:
FRI, DEC 10 | 4:30PM–7:00PM
SAT, DEC 11 | 10:00AM–3:00PM

Callbacks for new students AND PPD students:
SAT, DEC 18 | 10:00AM–3:00PM

Dance Call for PPD students and new students with a callback:
MON, DEC 20 | 5:00PM–6:00 PM

Ages 8–18

Note: As a benefit of the Pre-Professional Division Theatre Program, PPD students do not need to do a general audition and are invited straight to callbacks. Interested PPD students should make an appointment for a callback by contacting the Registration Office at registration@cocastl.org.

WHEN: Auditions will be held in individual, 10-minute appointments during the times listed above.

You can choose which side you would like to read. If you are auditioning for Matilda, you should be familiar with all of the Matilda sides, but you can choose the side you would like to read for the initial audition. For students coming directly to callbacks, you could be asked to read additional sides.

AGES 6+

Matilda Wormwood, a young girl with extraordinary powers, uses her love of reading and storytelling as an escape from her life with her neglectful and abusive parents. Matilda is sent off to school where she struggles under the reign of the school’s cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who punishes children for not abiding by her strict rules. Matilda befriends her kind teacher, Miss Honey, who realizes Matilda’s talents and encourages her to embrace her uniqueness. Matilda learns how to stand up to the adults in her life and discovers her own remarkable powers.

Casting the Following Roles

MICHAEL WORMWOOD/MALE ENSEMBLE
Must be able to fully participate in all ensemble vocal and dance numbers and also to play the Wormwood’s monosyllabic son. Needs good deadpan comedy and the ability to find a character during a lot of stage time with few words. Accomplished singer.
Age 10 to 15
Dialect Essex / Estuary / EastLondon

MATILDA
An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched.
Age Looks 6 to 10

AMANDA
Strong dance and vocal ability.
Age 7 to 10

LAVENDER
Loud and kooky—likes to have fun—big personality. Strong singing and acting and good dance skills.
Age 7 to 10

ALICE
Strong and Bold. Strong dance and vocal ability.
Age 7 to 14

HORTENSIA
Feisty. Strong dance and vocal ability.
Age 7 to 14

ERIC
Cute. Small. Ability to learn. Boys with limited dance training, but demonstrating strong potential are encouraged to audition.
Age 7 to 14

BRUCE
Matilda’s classmate. Boys with limited dance training, but demonstrating strong potential are encouraged to audition. Comic with strong acting and vocal ability.
Note: As part of the action on stage this role is required to eat chocolate cake, cream & icing. Must not be allergic to latex (material of the prop cake) or cake/icing ingredients. The character is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull.
Age 7 to 14

NIGEL
Vocal stamina for spoken dialogue. Strong dance ability. Strong vocal ability. Boys with limited dance training, but demonstrating strong potential are still encouraged to audition.

TOMMY
Strong dance and vocal ability. Boys with limited dance training, but demonstrating strong potential are encouraged to audition. Bruce and Matilda’s classmate. The character is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull.
