Cynthia McCollum has been teaching Ballet at COCA since 2007. Cynthia began her dance education in the Cecchetti method at the age of seven. At seventeen, Cynthia was accepted into the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne, Australia, where she studied for two years. She attended the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School in Canada briefly before she was asked to join the Royal Winnipeg Ballet Company with artistic director Arnold Sphor, touring South America, Cuba, Israel, Canada and the United States. Upon returning to the United States, Cynthia joined the Hartford Ballet Company, dancing under the direction of Michael Uthoff for seven years, during which time she studied with David Howard and Maggie Black in New York City. After retiring from professional dance, Cynthia attended the Teacher Training Program at the School of the Hartford Ballet, where she became Coordinator of Performance Studies, implementing programs to assist in the transition of students to professional dance in addition to teaching the Vaganova method for nine years. Cynthia holds a BA in Philosophy from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.
