Sophia Garner is COCA’s Grants Manager, after serving as the nonprofit’s Director of Development for 4 years. She joined COCA in 2013 as the Associate Director of Development – Grants, and in 2014, transitioned to Director of Development, to manage the development team and COCA’s comprehensive fundraising efforts, including its $45 million Create Our Future campaign. In 2018, her military family was relocated to Germany, and she now writes grants part-time and remotely, to help maintain and secure public and private funding for the organization.
Education and Background: B.S. in Theatre and Communications from Northwestern University (Evanston, IL); and M.F.A. in Performing Arts Management from CUNY – Brooklyn College (City University of New York in Brooklyn, NY). Previous to COCA, Ms. Garner worked in grant-making, program management and development at: the Brooklyn Arts Council (Brooklyn, NY); New Dramatists (NYC, NY); Roundabout Theatre Company (NYC, NY); and the Center for Arts in Education at Boston Arts Academy (Boston, MA). Prior to leaving St. Louis, she was a graduate of Focus St. Louis’s Coro Women in Leadership program.
