COCAwrites Festival

Pre-Professional Division students showcase works developed within the COCAwrites program for the COCAwrites Festival. These original works encompass the Festival’s theme of adaptation and documentation and will be created over the course of the semester.

Recommended for Ages 14+

About the COCAwrites Festival

The COCAwrites Festival is a full production of a professional work introducing students to the 2022–2023 COCAwrites theme: Adaptation and Documentation. Students and audiences learn more about documentary theatre and the adaptation process of new work with both a professional production and staged readings of student work based on a companion text.

About the COCAwrites Program

COCAwrites focuses on the writing and development of new plays for multigenerational theatre audiences through collaboration and learning among professional and student playwrights and composers. COCA’s Pre-Professional Division Theatre Artist students in this program workshop new plays and musicals written by professional composers and playwrights from around the country while having the chance to develop their own new plays and musicals with the mentorship of these leaders. Performance and Design-Tech students also have the chance to grow their skill in the new play development space, experimenting with new performance techniques, theatrical designs, and functions by applying them to never-before-produced plays. COCA is thrilled to offer this training to students as new work gains attention and priority on all stages across America’s theatres.
