Dance Program

The Dance Program within COCA’s Pre-Professional Division (PPD) is designed for students, ages 10–18, who have aspirations for a professional career in dance as well as for students who want an intensive style of conservatory training. COCA offers a nurturing path for every student based on their own aspirations, ideas, and perspectives.

We provide the highest quality dance training in the region with the rigorous, diverse instruction necessary to achieve the highest levels of professionalism and performance.

Training is offered within two main areas of study:

  • Classical & Contemporary Ballet
  • Modern & Contemporary Dance

Opportunities for students in the Dance Program include training with professional guest artists, unforgettable performance opportunities, and individualized career guidance.

Student Companies & Placements

Pre-Professional Division students in the Dance Program may be placed in one of COCA’s dance companies:

Dance Program Auditions

Students audition for acceptance into the Dance Program. Auditions are held annually in May. Once accepted, students enter the Junior or Senior division based on age and are placed in the appropriate level classes based on technique and ability demonstrated in their audition or with faculty approval. Students accepted into the Junior or Senior division also may be placed in one of COCA’s Student Companies. Class requirements vary based on Student Company level.

National Honor Society for Dance Arts

The National Honor Society for Dance Arts™ (NHSDA) is a program of the National Dance Education Organization, created to recognize outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance in public and private schools in K–12 education, dance studios, cultural/community centers, performing arts organizations, and post-secondary education.

Pre-Professional Division students who are in high school have the opportunity to apply to NHSDA at COCA as a student-led club with leadership and service opportunities.

Regional Dance America

Regional Dance America (RDA) is a national organization that provides performance and educational opportunities for pre-professional dancers and audiences throughout the United States. Member companies are provided access to diverse dance forms and performance and scholarship opportunities.

COCA’s Ballet Eclectica is a member of RDA/MidStates, one of five Regional Associations of RDA in the Central United States.
