Students in Filmmaking Intensive

Applying for COCA’s 2023 Summer Intensive Programs

COCA’s summer intensives provide students who are interested in advanced, focused engagement with the arts with outstanding opportunities. We have an incredible array of intensives designed to help students prepare for auditions and create portfolio-level work.

Advanced arts training is offered in:

  • Architecture
  • Ballet & Contemporary
  • Circus
  • Film
  • Teaching & Leadership
  • Theatre
  • Voice

Below, I’ve answered some of the most common questions we receive about getting enrolled in our summer intensives:

How do students apply for COCA’s summer intensives?

For all our summer intensives, there is an “extra step” in the enrollment process to ensure that all students are equally interested and serious about their studies.

  • For students currently studying in dance, voice, circus or technical theatre at COCA: The audition process is waived, and students need only call the Registration Office to let them know that you would like to enroll.
  • For students new to COCA and interested in the voice or songwriting intensives: Submit a recording of your student singing 32 bars of a song. Make sure we can see their face so that their level of engagement and “acting the song” are clear.
  • For students new to COCA and interested in dance intensives: Submit a video of your student dancing to the dance department.
  • For students interested in architecture, teach and lead, film, or new-to-COCA students interested in circus or technical theatre: Submit a brief statement of interest. This statement should be a paragraph that tells us why the student is interested in attending and what their previous experience has been with the art form.

Once approved, how do I enroll my student?

After your student is approved for the intensive, parents/guardians need to contact the Registration Office via phone or in person to complete enrollment in the intensive.

The Registration Office can also assist with any sliding scale tuition that your family is qualified to receive. Learn more about COCA’s sliding scale tuition program.

Other questions about our summer intensives and applying?

Reach out to our Registration Office at registration@cocastl.org or 314.561.4898 during their business hours: Monday–Friday from 9:00AM–6:00PM

Summer intensives are a great opportunity for focused middle and high school aged students to gain experience in the art form of their choice as they work with local as well as national level professionals who can help them attain their goals.

We hope to see your student at COCA this summer!
