Voice Program

COCA’s Voice Program offers vocalists the opportunity to learn and perform under the direction of Artistic Director of Voice Dr. Philip A. Woodmore. Students perform with COCA’s Allegro Vocal Company in the community and at COCA.

Allegro Vocal Company

Allegro Vocal Company performs a repertoire of choral and solo work based in musical theatre, acapella, and pop music in two concerts per year and in community engagements throughout the St. Louis community. Company dues are $475 and require two technique classes or permission of instructor. Sliding scale tuition rates apply to qualified students.

Allegro Vocal Company is a full school year (September–May) commitment.

Junior Company | Saturdays, 1:00–2:00PM

COCA’s vocal companies and auditions are led by Dr. Philip A. Woodmore. Dr Woodmore is one of the foremost voice authorities in the St Louis region. Dr. Woodmore has been an active member of the St. Louis music community for many years. He spent 14 years in the classroom teaching middle school choir in the St. Louis area. He is a vocal coach to many students in St. Louis, Los Angeles, Phoenix and New York. In August 2016, he was asked to compose an original score of a version of Antigone, translated by Bryan Doerries, called Antigone in Ferguson, which has been traveling the country. Dr. Woodmore earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing and Music, with a concentration in Vocal Performance, from Saint Louis University; a master’s degree in Music Education from Webster University; and PhD in Music Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Audition for Allegro Vocal Company

Students ages 10–18 are invited to audition for Allegro Vocal Company and should prepare 32 bars of a song and bring sheet music.
